A for…

Time flies, and now it’s already August. Soon, will be Ramadhan month and we’ll be celebrating raya after that.
Phewww, can you believe I haven’t send my baju raya to tailor (YET)? I wonder adakah tailor mahu terima lagi ke tak. Ngeee…
On the other hand, baju raya untuk Umar Syarif dah berlambak-lambak. Hahaa… tak tahu la raya nanti berapa kali perlu tukar baju dia supaya dapat pakai semua :P

I wanted to post something else actually – pasal Umar Syarif,of cos (ramai bersungut rindu kat dia. Suruh upload his latest picture. Sabar ya kalian semua) but I left my pendrive that contains his photo at home. Pagi tadi adalah kelam kelibut siap kan diri sendiri dan Umar. I have to manage myself and my baby all by myself for the first time. I can’t wait for my other half to be home.

Oh, now I wish I can fast forward time! :P

What to expect…

Besides love to cuddle Lil Umar, during the day – masa confinement (sekarang ni pun lagi lah suka! sebab dia dah pandai “menyembang”), I will spend some of my time to read books/articles. Kadang-kadang sambil dodoi dia tidur or while bertungku/berbengkung (even tengah BF pun boleh :P ) I will take something to read. Being a first time Mommy is not easy, so many things kene “trial-and-error”. Kalau macam ni tak boleh, try macam tu… Dulu masa MIL/my mom was around things get easier, so  bile dah on our own… hmmm, kene la pikir sendiri what to do.

One of the recommended book that I read is this… (still reading it, tho ;) )

I bought this book pun masa dalam pantang… Now everything online kan, so I just purchase this thru MPHOnline – it does takes sometime to deliver to your place. Tapi tak pelah, as long as I can get it :)

I totally heart Murkoff & the gang lah. Bcos they can come out with this awesome book. I highly recommended to newly parents to read this book. It is totally informative! It talks about various child-care issues (first bath, first solid foods – just to mention a few), provide some supporting pictures to explain clearly on their points. This book also discuss some huge topics such as breastfeeding vs bottle feeding, does carrying your baby will spoil them and training your baby to sleep through the night.

There’s so much more on this ~900pages book, so go and get it! :)

Of breastfeeding

Dah lama nak post an entry pasal breastfeeding ni. Asik tertangguh-tanguh je. So, now ade masa lapang skit nak type panjang… hehe..

Masa dalam pantang after 2 weeks giving birth to Umar, barulah dapat fully breastfeed Umar. Tapi tu pun dok bising-bising kat husband yang my milk supply tak banyak. I always think that my milk production is low and not enough for him. Which is so negative of me, sebab berpikiran macam tu :P

I tried so many ways to increase my milk supply; orang kata makan lobak putih (Parsnips) – hari-hari dok makan but still the same je. Lepas tu makan sawi lah, pegaga lah, daun kucai lah… basically, dah try makan everything lah, lepas tu minum susu and milo twice daily. Still, sama je. But, Lil Umar tak nangis pun after each feeding, maybe my milk supply is already enough for him (?). Sebab our milk production pun depends on demand jugak kan. Kalau demand sikit je, takde lah nak keluar banyak pun. Sebab tulah ramai orang kata pump lepas habis feed baby, nanti susu lagi banyak.

Lama-lama tu, I become more positive dan tak mau stress pasal ni. Husband pun cakap, kalau stress nanti lagi sikit. Memang betul pun. So, now I am one happy mother! Eventho I don’t stock up much masa nak start keja and I have to give FM to my babysitter, am still happy. Memang tak sempat pun nak pump and stock up 2 weeks before tu, and some more masa tu pun still dok try this and that to increase my milk production. Sampaikan rasa penat sangat and ada rasa macam mau give up je, bcos at one time I can only pump tak sampai 1oz pn. Jadi, macam mana nak stock susu kalau everytime pump keluar tak sampai 1oz? So, I said to myself, that’s it… naik keja nanti baru lah start stock up susu dengan jayanya. So, Alhamdulilah… 1st day at work I manage to pump close to 10oz! :)

Speaking of pump, I used 3 pumps actually. Masa mula-mula guna manual (given by my SIL), memang penat la weh. Lenguh tangan-tangan ni. Pulak tu yang keluar sikit. So I stop using manual, I used my own hand instead. Keluar lagi banyak dari pakai pump. Wahh… suka! Suka! Then bila dah lama-lama sikit, pakai electric pump (given by my SIL jugak). Eh, seronoknya… keluar lagi banyak. Masa ni belum try guna Swing lagi. Then, bila try guna Swing… jadi pelik pulak kenapa it took longer than electric pump. Rupa-rupanya, I took out the membrane yang sepatutunya tak perlu dicabut. Ahahahaa… Nasib baik lah, jumpa Afzan, yang kebetulan ada training juga di INTAN – same place as my husband attended his training. I have to ask my husband to set a lunch date with her, semata-mata nak tengok her pump. (Eh, bukan tengok dia pumping milk. TAKKK! Tengok Swing dia je). Thanks ye, Afzan! Mujur lah Afzan tunjuk kene letak membrane tu ;) And now, am in love with my Swing! :D

Here are 35 ways to boost your milk supply:

1. Breastfeed frequently. Frequent breastfeeding is the number one key to boosting your milk supply. (I have no problem at all, since Umar sangat-sangat kerap menyusu. Sampai nak pump pun tak sempat :P )
2. Offer both breasts during feedings.
3. Make sure baby nurses long enough to empty your breast when she nurses.
4. Don’t schedule feedings. Follow your baby’s hunger cues for feeding.
5. Allow your baby to cluster feed. Cluster feeding is when a baby breastfeeds several times during a short period of time. Babies often cluster feed in the evenings before they go to sleep.
6. Try switch nursing. Nurse on one breast, if baby gets tired of nursing switch to the other breast, and continue switching breasts until both breasts are empty or baby will no longer suck.
7. Use breast compression when you nurse. Breast compression involves massaging your breast and squeezing extra milk out as your baby nurses. (I used to massage my breast masa Umar menyusu – masa awal-awal dulu la. Time milk production low. And it helps!)
8. Breastfeed at night. Night feedings are great for boosting milk supply.
9. Pump after nursing. Usually pumping after nursing will help empty the breast. If you find that you are not pumping anything after nursing you can try pumping before nursing. Babies are much more efficient at emptying the breast than a pump so this may work better for some moms. (I have to pump before feed Umar. Sebabnya, kalau dah feed Umar dlu baru pump, nanti dapat sikittt ja. The max I can get about 1oz for each pumping session)
10. If your supply is low or baby is not gaining weight see a lactation consultant for help.
11. Make sure baby is latching on well. Try more than one technique to get your baby latched on. (Nasib baik masa pegi antenatal class dah belajar how to make sure baby latching well. Kalau tak betul, nanti kita yang sakit ;) )
12. Get support from breastfeeding moms.
13. Pump while you nurse. Pump on one side and nurse on the other. Then switch sides and let baby empty the breast that you pumped. (Tak retilah. Kene ade orang tolong baru boleh.)
14. Get lots of skin to skin contact with baby.
15. Nurse in bed. Lying down in bed may help you relax and allow baby to nurse for longer periods of time.
16. Don’t sleep on your stomach at night. This may compress your breasts and hinder your supply.
17. Let your baby comfort nurse even if you don’t hear her swallowing.
18. Try babywearing. Carry your baby in a sling or try nursing her in the sling.
19. Avoid pacifiers and artificial nipples ( Yang ini Umar sendiri tak reti mahu isap pacifier. Some people suggest to us, to use pacifier sbb Umar suke mengempeng. Tapi Umar tak reti lah nak isap. Kelakarlah, sebab dia asik keluarkan lidah dia je…macam nak menjilat :P )
20. Avoid taking birth control pills while you are breastfeeding if possible.
21. Don’t smoke.
22. Drink plenty of water, especially right before you nurse. (Yeah, right!! Minumlah banyak-banyak air suam, especially. Dalam 3-4litre daily, memang boleh banyak susu. Biarlah ulang-alik ke toilet thousand times daily pun takpe… – kata nak kuruskan, itu salah satu exercise dah tu, haha!)
23. Limit how much caffeine you drink.
24. Try to relax when you nurse and not rush.
25. Avoid supplementing if at all possible.
26. Eat a healthy diet with plenty of protein.
27. If your baby needs to supplement, consider using a supplemental nursing system or lactation aid so that your baby can nurse at the breast while you supplement.
28. Take a nursing vacation. Spend a weekend in bed with your baby and nurse her as much as possible.
29. Try taking fenugreek or blessed thistle. Both our herbs that have been used to help improve milk supply. (I’ve been consuming fenugreek pills, and it does boost up my milk supply! ;) You can get it from BabySnowDrop )
30. Try drinking mother’s milk tea. Mother’s milk tea can be found at most health stores. (Haaa… yang ini saya pun ada cuba. Rasa dia lebih kurang fenugreek jugak. Eh, ada sapa-sapa mahu try rasa tak? I can give it for free. PM me for more details :) )
31. Don’t diet while you are breastfeeding. (True. Nanti tak cukup susu pulak. That’s whylah saya ini ada lagi berbaki 5kilo yang perlu dibuangkan. Mungkin bulan puasa boleh turun sikit. My target to get back my pre-pregnancy weight is within 4months. Slow and steady. Harap-harap raya nanti saya tak makan banyak! Heh)
32. Eat a bowl of oatmeal. Some moms believe oatmeal helps boost milk supply.
33. Talk to your doctor about prescription medication like Reglan to boost your milk supply.
34. Avoid decongestants and antihistamines as these may decrease milk supply.
35. Remember that any amount of breast milk your baby gets from you is good for her.

So, now rasanya I dont have to worry pasal milk supply nih. For now, still enough for my baby as I constantly eating fenugreek tu. My ex-boss and my colleague always said (since sebelum saya bersalin lagi diorang sudah berpesan, actually!), it’s all on your mind. Kene set betul-betul yang kite memang nak breastfeed, insyaAllah… adalah susu untuk baby tu. Ada banyak lagi tips lain yang other people share. Ade sorang tu bagi tau, time pumping tu, tengok gambar baby… it helps to simulate.

Korang ade any other tip(s) on this? Do share! :D

60 days

He is 2 months old today! :D

I love you very much, sayang!

Diet plan yang punah...

Tell me how to diet when there is…

just downstairs of my (temporary) office… and…

just few meters away…juga…

opposite my building (actually takde la betul-betul opposite… kene jalan banyak sikit la baru jumpa).

Nasib baik duduk kat sini temporary saje… if it’s forever, nampak gayanya cita-cita Mama untuk shed another 5kgs mungkin kurang berjaya (mungkin akan bertambah lagi adelah :P ).

Tapi rekod “berpantang” ice for 100 days masih lagi dipertahankan. Nyaris-nyaris mahu order cold drinks kat Obriens tadi ;) tapi bile teringat balik mission 100 hari tu, tak jadilah. Hehe.

Oklah, itu sahaja laporan langsung dari KL. (Haa… Fitri, dah terjawab belum persoalan yang berselirat di kepala ko? Hehe.)

First day

Alhamdulilah… setelah 2 bulan meninggalkan pejabat, today is my first day back to the office! Hehe.
We moved to a new building, I have new cubicle… well, not as isolated as before… but still quiet (for now).
Dan cube saya dekat dengan Mother’s Room! Yay! Boleh la pumping to the max ;)

And today also his (my baby) first day with babysitter.
Ohh… lupa mau update. Husband and I finally found a babysitter for him.
Alhamdulilah, just nearby to our place. Syukur sangat. Tapi tak sempatlah send Umar for “training”… sebab semalam baru jumpa. So, last minute kan?! Tak pelah… I hope he’ll be fine (actually Mama dia kot yang emo :P Semua first time mom macam ni kan?). I’ve told Mak Su (the babysitter), just call me if there’s anything. I will be there. Ini pun every now and then pun dok la check phone kot-kot ade Mak Su call.

Ok peeps, have to stop now… tones of emails need to be read and replied.

Ohh by the way, I’ll be in KL this weekend until 20th July. Tak sabar pulak nak tunggu Sabtu! Hehe…

Aunty Atie, nak jumpe Umar tak?

Projek semalam...

Now you see it…

And now you don’t…

Semalam Mama & Ayah berhempas pulas mencukur rambut saya.
Saya tak banyak ragam pun, sebab Mama dah upah susu dulu jadi saya tido je sepanjang Ayah cukur.
Mama sedih sebab rambut saya dah takde, while Ayah pulak suke sebab saya nampak lagi handsome dan macho ;)

So, what do u guys think? Handsome ke macho? :D

Mayday! Mayday! Mayday!

I desperately need HELP!

Memandangkan I’ll start work soon, so last week I trained my lil baby to use bottle. Ok, Umar bukan tak penah pakai bottle, pernah… in fact masa awal-awal haritu, we even mix BF and FM bcos of my milk production not so much. And he been drinking from the bottle with no problem. But then, makin lama… makin susah pulak si Umar ni nak minum susu dalam botol :( Tak sampai hati nak dengar dia nangis teresak-esak sebab tak mau botol.

Ade ape-ape petua tak? So far I’ve tried 2 teats from Avent & NUK. Both pun dia tak mau. My colleague suggest beli saja semua puting yang ada dipasaran – mana tau Umar wants the cheapest. Hehee… Make sense jugak. Sometimes, the cheapest tu la berkesan. And 2 of my friends suggest to use MAM. Boleh consider jugak pakai MAM, in fact I want to use MAM for Umar… tapi tah kenapa terbeli jugak Avent ni.

But my mom said, nanti bile hantar dia kat nursery/babysitter pandai lah dia minum from bottle. Dah lapar, sure he’ll suck it. Sebab my younger sister, masa baby dia pun tak mau bottle… but bile hantar kat babysitter, dia minum je. Well, I hope Umar will behave well la nanti.

Anyway, doakan kami selamat sejahtera bcos esok nak test hantar Umar to nursery. Saya harap saya mampu bertahan. Ya Allah, permudahkanlah urusan kami & lindungi keluarga kami dari sebarang bencana. Amin. Maybe I will send him there for half day. Ade tak orang hantar suku hari? T___T

while he asleep...

Umar dah tido, Ayah Umar keluar stock up groceries. Tadi berangan nak ikut Ayah Umar… tapi tak jadi, bile tengok Umar nyenyak sangat tido, tak sampai hati nak angkat dia. Kalau tak, tadi dah boleh la rasmikan stroller baru! Hihi. Hadiah dari Embah dan Tok.

I’ve been thinking nak beli baby carrier/baby sling. Few people advice me not to buy baby bjorn and suggested to google on soft structured carrier . Actually, kiteorang dah survey dah nak beli yang mana satu (from baby bjorn la). But since ade orang kata, kalau beli baby bjorn punye carrier baby tak duduk elok dalam tu macam tergantung, so kenalah “revise” again ni. I actually interested in baby sling tu, but hubby said macam serabut je. He referred baby sling tu as ‘kain bibik’ sebab ramai kan maid indon pakai macam tu :P

Enough pasal baby, now pasal raya. Wahh… puasa belum nak cerita pasal raya. Korang semua dah start hantar kain baju raya kat tailor ke? Ha, tailor dah tak accept kain for raya dah? Aiyo… pengsan la macam ni, sebab kiteorang ni kain pun tak beli lagi. Haha. Lepas tu nak hantar jahit kat mana pun tak pasti lagi nih. Rasanya macam tak mau hantar kat tailor last year tu. Dia jahit macam tak best. Kalau hantar baju bukan raya, she can sew well… agaknya sebab banyak sangat tempahan kot. Tu yang dia jahit macam ala kadar je. Nasib baik lah last year ade banyak baju raya, so yang rosak tu tak terpakai pun sampailah sekarang. Speaking of baju raya, I actually aiming to wear my kebaya nyonya yang pakai sekali je masa raya last year. I hope I can fit into it by raya nanti. I have about 8kgs more to go! Jiayu, Mama! Jiayu!

Ok, I better off now. Oh, anyone yang ade info/blog shop on baby carrier/baby sling (esp. on soft structured carrier) do share! Taaaa.

Umar Syarif

Life has completely change when he arrived.
It used to be only me and husband, but now there are three of us :)
I can’t tell he inherits who the most, but he has long legs and long fingers, rambut lebat (yes, sangat lebat ;) ), round and shiny brown eyes and chubby cheeks.

I love looking at his face especially when I breastfeed him, waiting for his smile and I always looking forward to go “on duty” at night, so that we can have our own time together; feed him, changing his diaper and later dodoi him until he fall asleep.

So far he has been good. He will cry when he’s hungry or feel uneasy – Little Umar ade banyak angin (sama macam Mama dia kot :P ) so when he wants to burp or toot, he tends to cry first then when everything dah settle he’ll be quiet or sleep. Oh, this Lil boy scared of water! Ggggggrrrrr… Menggigil kalau nak kena mandi ;) Memang drama habislah masa bathing time tu. Same goes masa nak basuh his poo. You know lah kan how many times newborn baby poo satu hari. Hikhikhikkk. We used to clean his poo using wet cotton balls, but few days ago… husband tekad nak basuh his poo kat sink. As expected, he screamed on top of his lung. Haha… Tak hero lah anak Mama ni ;) But, kejap je dia jerit. Lepas dah kena air lama-lama tu his okay.

His umbilical cord tertanggal on the 8th day, he was 2.95kgs masa lahir and 10 days after that he was 3.1kgs. On the 20th day, his weight was 3.7kgs! Harini tak tahu la berapa… sebab kalau riba dia, mesti dah rasa lenguh-lenguh sebab berat :)
Actually, tak expect pun dia akan gain weight sebabnya he keep on poo-ing, rupanya it is normal for newborn baby to poo more than 4 times/day. At first memang gelabah habis lah… ingatkan kenapalah si kecik ni asyik berak-berak. Bila tanya nurse yang datang ke rumah (oh, btw, nurse from gov clinic came to our house everyday since the day husband reported to them that I’ve delivered until day 10. Nice kan? They will check both mom & baby) depa kata memang normal, tanya Mak pun Mak kata biasalah tu and we also read some info from the net – also said the same thing. In fact, it can last for a month. So, there’s nothing to be worried! :D

Ah, I can never stop talking about Umar Syarif. I think I better stop now… he’s crying for his milk.

Bye for now ;)
